Rethinking the Internet Architecture
As the existence of this seminar series suggests, there is a growing interest in the Internet research community in revisiting and rethinking the Internet architecture. In this talk I will present some initial and scattered thoughts on this clean-slate mania, arguing that: (a) technical issues are the easiest aspect of this challenge, (b) reliability is perhaps the most pressing issue, (c) a revised naming system may, from a user's perspective, offer significantly improved Internet reliability, and (d) troubleshooting and debugging require more attention than they currently receive. Warning: anyone familiar with the series of papers on flat names and delegation should be prepared to doze off for a substantial portion of the talk.
